We’re proud to be a partner of the Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) 2025 held in Oroquieta City, championing innovation and collaboration alongside the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and its regional offices. The event took place from October 1 to 3, 2025, at the Bayfront Arena, bringing together innovators, researchers, students, and industry leaders from across Northern Mindanao.
Representing Makerlab Electronics, Angelo Espineda (Technical Supervisor) and Tricia Mae Gervas (Trade Sales Supervisor) joined the event to support DOST’s mission of advancing Science for the People and building smarter, sustainable communities through technology.
Opening Ceremony and Keynote Message
The official opening on October 2, 2025, was led by DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr., together with national and local officials. In his keynote message, Secretary Solidum emphasized that “we do not just fall in love with the solutions—we first fall in love with the problems.”
His words resonated with attendees as he reminded innovators that true progress begins with understanding the challenges that science and technology aim to solve—ensuring no one is left behind in innovation.
Launch of the DOST Misamis Occidental Innovation Hub (iHub)
One of the main highlights of RSTW 2025 was the launch of the DOST Misamis Occidental Innovation Hub (iHub)—a newly built space designed to empower startups, MSMEs, students, and innovators through mentorship, research, and collaboration.
The iHub will serve as a creative and collaborative environment where ideas can develop into sustainable solutions. It reflects DOST’s ongoing efforts to strengthen regional innovation ecosystems and promote inclusive technological development.
Exhibits, Engagements, and Recognition
The three-day celebration featured interactive exhibits showcasing technologies from various DOST agencies and partner institutions. The DOST-ASTI booth drew over a hundred visitors—from local government units to academic representatives—eager to learn about the technologies driving smarter and more sustainable communities.
The event also featured activities such as the Mobile Planetarium, nuLAB (mobile STEM facility), and the Technology Expo, giving students and participants a firsthand look at how science and innovation are shaping the future.
RSTW 2025 concluded on October 3, 2025, with a Closing Ceremony that recognized institutions and organizations that demonstrated exceptional contributions to innovation and resilience across Northern Mindanao.
