Cebu City — August 27–28, 2025
FabFest 2025 brought together makers, creatives, startups, students, and MSMEs for a two-day celebration of innovation and digital fabrication at the Cebu Institute of Technology – University (CIT-U).
Organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 7 in partnership with Field Ready, the event showcased how technology and creativity can work hand-in-hand to drive economic growth and inspire the next generation of Filipino innovators.
A Festival of Innovation
FabFest, short for Fabrication Festival, serves as a national platform where participants present projects powered by digital fabrication tools such as 3D printing, laser cutting, and robotics.
The event highlighted how these technologies are no longer limited to big industries but are becoming accessible to students, communities, and small businesses.
Makerlab at FabFest 2025
Makerlab Electronics proudly represented Janssen Harris Industries Corporation at FabFest 2025, with two delegates in attendance:
- Voltaire Gaviola, Brand Supervisor
- Justine Lance Ramon, Technical Sales Associate
The Makerlab team actively engaged with students, makers, and entrepreneurs, exchanging insights on the role of digital fabrication in today’s industries.
Sharing Knowledge: Tips & Tricks for 3D Printing Scale Buildings
One of the highlights was Voltaire Gaviola’s talk, “Tips & Tricks for 3D Printing Scale Buildings.”
In his session, Voltaire discussed:
- Why 3D printing is a game-changer for architectural models, solving limitations of traditional methods.
- How architects and designers can speed up prototyping while reducing costs and waste.
- Key technical tips: proper scaling, optimal print settings (like 0.1–0.2 mm layer heights for walls and details), and methods to prevent warping.
- Post-processing insights such as sanding, priming, and painting to achieve professional-quality scale models.
His talk drew attention from both students and professionals who saw practical ways to integrate 3D printing into design, architecture, and engineering.
A Special Giveaway: Free Creality 3D Printer
To further inspire future makers, Makerlab partnered with Creality to sponsor a free 3D printer giveaway. The lucky winner received a Creality 3D printer, empowering them to continue exploring digital fabrication beyond the event.
This giveaway highlighted Makerlab’s commitment to supporting the maker community and ensuring access to cutting-edge tools for innovation.
Key Highlights
- Crowds at the Booth — Visitors explored projects showcased by Makerlab
- Creative Energy — Students and startups exchanged ideas on how digital tools can solve real-world challenges
- Celebrating Talent — Winners of FabFest competitions were recognized for their creativity and problem-solving skills.
Why FabFest Matters
FabFest 2025 reaffirmed the importance of creating spaces where technology and creativity meet. For students, it was an eye-opening introduction to the possibilities of digital fabrication. For MSMEs and startups, it was a chance to build networks and discover tools that could help them scale their businesses.
Looking Forward
