Bringing 3D Printing and Scanning to Cordillera: Inside the AMCen Launch

Bringing 3D Printing and Scanning to Cordillera: Inside the AMCen Launch
The Cordillera region is stepping into the future with the launch of the Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMCen) – Cordillera Administrative Region. Held in La Trinidad, Benguet, this milestone event—supported by DOST-MIRDC, DOST-CAR, and Makerlab Electronics—brings advanced tools like 3D printing and scanning closer to students, MSMEs, and innovators, empowering local communities with inclusive technology.

The Cordillera mountains are known for their rich culture, breathtaking landscapes, and resilient communities. Now, they’re also becoming a hub for cutting-edge technology.

Makerlab Electronics (The Philippines' Premier Digital fabrication equipment distributor) is honored to be part of history as we join the official launch of the Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMCen) – Cordillera Administrative Region, held on August 2025 at the DOST-CAR Annex Building in La Trinidad, Benguet.

This isn’t just the opening of a new facility — it’s a bold leap toward making advanced manufacturing accessible to everyone in the region, from small business owners and students to researchers and local creators.

A Vision for Inclusive Innovation

The Department of Science and Technology – Metals Industry Research and Development Center (DOST-MIRDC) spearheaded this initiative, with the strong support of DOST-CAR and  Makerlab Electronics. Together, we share a common vision: to bridge the gap between emerging technology and the people who can use it to make a real difference.

For many years, advanced manufacturing tools like 3D printers, 3D scanners, and additive manufacturing solutions were often seen as out of reach — expensive, complicated, or available only in big cities. AMCen Cordillera changes that.

Now, the mountain region’s innovators no longer have to travel far to access high-tech facilities. This center is here, within their own community, ready to empower local dreams and turn them into tangible, workable realities.

A Launch Filled with Learning and Inspiration

The launch event was more than just speeches and ribbon-cutting. It was a hands-on experience that allowed guests to see and feel the power of advanced manufacturing.

📍 Facility Tour: Participants explored AMCen’s workspace, seeing firsthand the equipment, tools, and resources now available in the Cordilleras.

🖨️ Live 3D Printing Demos: Led by Ms. Hannah Ramos and Engr. Mark Francis Sedano, these sessions showcased how an idea can move from concept to physical object in just hours. From prototyping small-scale parts to producing intricate designs, the live demonstrations gave attendees a real sense of what’s possible.

Who Can Use AMCen?

AMCen Cordillera was built for the people. Whether you are:

  • An MSME owner looking to develop or improve a product
  • A student eager to learn about engineering, robotics, or product design
  • A researcher needing rapid prototyping for your experiments
  • An innovator or hobbyist ready to explore new tools and techniques
…this center is open to you.

Why It Matters

The opening of AMCen Cordillera signals a new chapter for the local economy and education. It means more opportunities for young people to gain future-ready skills. It means local businesses can create competitive products without relying solely on external suppliers. It means research and innovation no longer have to be limited by distance or access.

Most importantly, it means technology is no longer something that happens “somewhere else.” It’s here — in the Cordilleras — ready to be embraced, explored, and expanded upon by those who live here.

Makerlab Electronics: Empowering Communities Through Technology

As one of the proud partners in this project, Makerlab Electronics remains committed to bringing technology closer to communities. Over the years, we’ve introduced makers, educators, and businesses to 3D printing, robotics, and other STEM innovations — and AMCen Cordillera is the perfect next step in this mission.

We believe that when the right tools are placed in the right hands, amazing things can happen. The Cordilleras have always been a land of resourcefulness and creativity. Now, with AMCen, that spirit of innovation has a powerful new home.

The Journey Forward

The launch of AMCen Cordillera is just the beginning. In the months and years ahead, we envision:

  • Training programs for educators and students
  • Workshops for MSMEs and entrepreneurs
  • Research collaborations with universities and local industries
  • A thriving community of makers, thinkers, and problem-solvers working together to go beyond the conventional

Makerlab Electronics will continue to stand alongside our partners and the Cordillera community as we push the boundaries of what’s possible — one project, one prototype, one innovation at a time.

Innovation has found a new home in the mountains.
And from here, the possibilities are as vast as the horizon. 🌄🚀
