Cubao, Quezon City – Makerlab, a leading local provider of 3D printing and prototyping solutions, partnered with the Department of Science and Technology – Metals Industry Research and Development Center’s Advanced Manufacturing Center (DOST–MIRDC AMCen) at the Philippine Space Week Exhibit held from August 8 to 10, 2025 at Quantum Skyview, Gateway Mall 2 in Araneta City.

The event, themed “Yamang Kalawakan ay Likas sa Maunlad na Kinabukasan” (Natural Space Treasures for a Prosperous Future), gathered government agencies, private companies, academia, and international partners to celebrate advancements in space technology and its role in national development.

Highlighting Local Innovation in Space Manufacturing

The DOST–MIRDC Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMCen), together with Makerlab, played a pivotal role in supporting the Philippine Space Agency’s mission to advance the country’s capabilities in space science and technology. By leveraging cutting-edge additive manufacturing technologies, AMCen and Makerlab showcased how local innovation can directly contribute to the aerospace and space sectors — industries traditionally dominated by foreign suppliers.

At their exhibit booth, visitors experienced live demonstrations of high-precision 3D printing in action. These demonstrations illustrated how locally developed additive manufacturing solutions can produce lightweight yet durable aerospace components, enable rapid prototyping of satellite parts, and fabricate customized functional tools suited for high-performance and extreme space environments.

Through this collaboration, AMCen provided its advanced manufacturing expertise, while Makerlab brought in its hands-on technical capabilities and 3D printing innovation. Together, they presented a compelling case for reducing dependence on imported parts, lowering production costs, and accelerating development timelines for the Philippine Space Agency’s projects — from satellite manufacturing to launch support equipment.

A Strong Public–Private Partnership

AMCen, as the country’s national hub for additive manufacturing, provides specialized services including reverse engineering, materials testing, and design optimization. Makerlab’s participation strengthened the booth’s engagement factor, offering attendees practical, hands-on experiences with the technologies that can support satellite manufacturing, aerospace engineering, and other high-tech industries.

The joint exhibit served as an example of how public–private partnerships can accelerate the adoption of advanced manufacturing technologies and drive innovation forward.
